ARTIFICIAL GRASS FAQs

1. Does artificial grass fade?

The good quality ones should NOT fade in the sun. stay clear of the ones that are made in china! The ones we work with as a company are all European made and some UK. They come with a ten-year manufacture guarantee. And have a high UV rating.

2. How much does artificial grass cost?

Prices can vary from as little £9psm – £36psm. These are prices for the turf itself, not installation included. A lot of things can vary the fitting charge i.e. ease of access, waste removal and design of the lawn.

3. Does artificial grass get hot?

In theory yes. After all it is made from synthetic materials so if in direct sunlight you might find it a bit too hot to sit on sometimes but it would need to be a very hot day for this to be the case.

4. Is artificial grass pet friendly?

Yes, no more muddy paw prints on your nice flooring. It can start to get an aroma on it off the urine if not cleaned regularly but apart from that it is definitely pet friendly if chewed it is less toxic than chemically treated natural lawn.

5. Is artificial grass slippery when wet?

Generally, no. as a supplier and fitter I can say n my experience no grass I have used or worked with is slippery when wet. On the topic it dries an awful lot faster than a natural lawn. The kids could be out playing on it as soon as half an hour after a downpour staying completely dry.

6. Is artificial grass good for the environment?

So this is an interesting topic. Both sides have good arguments.

The benefits:

  • No water needed to maintain it
  • No petrol fumes off mowers and strimmer’s
  • No chemicals being made or used to restore it

The downside:

  • It is a petroleum-based product that causes pollution during manufacturing
  • It isn’t a harbor for wildlife
  • It is not biodegradable even though it is usually made partially with recycled materials

7. How do you fix artificial grass?

As a supplier and fitter, I recommend fixing it to a concrete haunch when possible. In order to do this you would have to lay a border of kerbs, cobbles or block on a concrete wet mix, wait for a day or two to set then fix the grass to the concrete. This will outlast any other technique over time. The most popular DIY method is to use timber battens and fix the grass to the wood. It’s a good technique and a solid way to do it but how long will it last is the question.

8. What do you lay artificial grass on?

Sands is the best option. You can use screed bars or a rake with good technique to level the base giving you a nice even surface to lay the artificial grass on.

Great work guys!

The men at aspire have literally changed my life for the better. For years and years I’ve spent fulls days out in my garden trying to maintain it and keep it looking desirable. Since the lads installed my artificial turf I’ve got my Sundays back. Aspire done a great job. Supplied me with a real authentic looking lawn and fitted it very efficiently. They was finished right on time. When its time for me to get the front done I will be giving them a call no doubt.
